If your keeping your ear close to the ground these days you may have heard of Seek N Destroy, Electro/Dutch/dubstep Dj & producer from Adelaide whom descibes his style as “puking rainbows and shitting lazerbeams” and thats really no lie. His latest release on Shabang Records “Bang this Joint” entered the beatport electro charts at #78 and as I write this article currently sitting at #68. Bang This Joint is a freaking banger and the team here at HD are sure its only going to get bigger.
We managed to get in a quick 5er with the man to have a chat about how he produces, the Adelaide scene and much much more we also convinced him to give away some tracks for you all. Interview below
You recently just released an EP on Shabang records how was it received and what was the feed back on that release?
It was handled very well, Shabang Records to me is one of the best labels in aus and was an ease to work with! Feedback on the release was awesome! To name a few Peacetreaty, Far Too Loud, Mr Vega, Anna Kiss, Denzal Park and Defunct All support the EP! Not to mention a whole lot more supporters all around the globe!
So briefly take us through the typical way your write / start a track?
It changes quite a bit but I usually do everything in a 16 – 32 bar loop and then just arrange it all, add effects, experiment, etc! Don’t really think there’s any textbook way of doing it but cutting my head open and splattering my brain on the screen would probably be the best way to explain it…. Sorta! haha
Studio setup?
A 20 Inch Mac, 1 x Mac 20 inch Monitor 2 x KRK 6inch Rokits, 1 x Roland Cakewalk UA-25 EX, 1 x Behringer UMX49 Keyboard and that’s just about it, I think!
DAW your using?
Logic Studio! Never got comfortable with other programs so Logic was always the way to go!
Favorite soft / hardware synth?
NI Massive fo sho’ Big fan of the Dada Life Sausage Fattener too!
One plug-in you couldn’t live without?
Hmmm…. There are many but I would still have to say massive or possibly even sylenth!
What artist/s do you have your eye on at the moment?
Umm Mr. Skeleton, Bass Kicka, Audiobotz, Slop Rock, Kraymer, Rubberteeth, Wellsaid, Motez, Uberjak’d, Dirt Cheap and J-Trick! Mainstream wise I would definitely say Lazy Rich, Bloody Beetroots, Cool Project, Beataecue and Knife party (fo sho’)
How is the dance scene in Adelaide and the sound you’re pushing?
The dance music scene here is up and down! I’ve started to see a lot more progress upwards though lately which is a very good thing but I still think we need to make a bigger splash in aus! The sound im pushing is quite similar to the likes of Jackhammer, Vandalism, Knife Party and Angger Dimas! Best bunch of words to describe it would be ‘puking rainbows and shitting lazerbeams’ Or just simply Poo Rave (It’s rave that makes you lose your shit, literally!)
From your perspective as a Dj / producer what do you think of the current dance music scene in Australia?
Its pretty decent and growing at quite a rapid rate too! I love hearing all the new Aussie stuff we’ve been coming out with lately! Hopefully we will keep it up!
